Investigating the Conservatorship Industry | ABC 10

This week, Sacramento’s ABC 10 (KXTV) launches an original five-part series on abuses within California’s conservatorship industry. Investigative reporter Andie Judson will go in-depth to cover serious regulatory issues and suspected cases of elder financial exploitation by bad conservators.

Hackard Law’s Michael Hackard was interviewed for this series and provided his knowledge and experience in representing elderly clients and their families against fiduciaries who have violated their professional duties and state law. Below you can find the text and trailer for ABC 10’s upcoming series:

COMING SOON: The Price of Care: Investigating California Conservatorships

COMING SOON | Many have heard of conservatorships recently by way of Britney Spears or the Golden Globe winning Netflix film, “I Care A lot.” One year in the making, this ABC10 Originals 5-part series, “The Price of Care: Investigating California Conservatorships” by investigative reporter, Andie Judson dives into the systemic issues of conservatorships in California and the lack of oversight of this $13-billion-dollar industry.

In this series, we explore how this powerful industry controls other people’s lives — from what people can eat, who they see, where they live — as well as a massive amount of their money, yet provides little oversight from state regulators, and why many believe it is benefitting its members rather than the person it’s supposed to care for, typically an elderly person under the conservatorship.

Starting Monday, May 24, you can tune in everyday next week at 11p.m. on ABC10’s #LateNewsTonight to watch the 5-part series, “The Price of Care: Investigating California Conservatorships”
