Childhood Sexual Abuse | Forever Changed

I’m Mike Hackard from Hackard Law. We’re known for vigorously prosecuting California estate, trust, and financial elder abuse litigation. It’s not all that we do.

We often represent underdogs in cases that others might not bring. Victims of childhood sexual assault claims are surely the underdogs. Their voices have often been silenced and their rights ignored.

Some changes in California law have expanded the timeline in which these cases can be brought. We’re civilly prosecuting several of these childhood sexual assault cases – cases in which the abuse occurred even decades ago.

These aren’t trivial matters. And, from society’s perspective, there are far too many of them. Too many innocent people who’ve endured suffering.

Vince Gill, a country legend, wrote his own song about such abuse. His song grew from his personal experience when a seventh-grade basketball coach tried to abuse him. A coach who had many victims.

Vince Gill’s words, addressed to his abuser and others like him, cut deep.

“You put your hands where they don’t belong | And now her innocence is dead and gone.”

Too many kids go through this. And too many abusers continue unchecked, unrepentant, unpunished by the law. Vince Gill’s words, again, make the point:

“Can’t you just leave the child alone | I can hear the angels in heaven moan | God was watching and he knows your name | Because of you, she’s forever changed.”

There are a lot of kids forever changed. California’s 3-year civil prosecution window for childhood victims who are now over 40 closes at the end of 2022.

We may, along with our clients, negotiate and agree to a contingency fee. This means that our clients owe us nothing unless or until we negotiate a settlement or recover at trial.
